Les Nymphéas Digitales
During a two-year development project/grant, Serge Verstockt is working on a trajectory around immersive technology, AI and spatialization. For the first part, LES NYMPHEAS DIGITALES, HERMESensemble and ChampdAction have entered into a collaboration. In a later phase (2023) the trajectory culminates in an immersive installation.
During the premiere of LES NYMPHEAS DIGITALES in De Bijloke, Serge will take you on a journey through three sound worlds. He designs an experience in eight channels. Reality and a digital world, where physical laws do not apply, merge into a new reality. Our deepest thoughts and images surf an icy stream of binary code where there is no doubt: it's 1 or 0. But sometimes the 'glitch' strikes, that's where both worlds meet.
In LES NYMPHEAS DIGITALES, razor-sharp digital glitches collide with impressionistic sound clouds in an immersive octophonic sound arrangement.
ChampdAction will also take care of the electronics and sound of the two other pieces in the program in De Bijloke. Kaija Saariaho designed a listening experience of the aurora with ARCHES, universal through a unique supercooled brilliance. The work is a milestone for ensemble music engaging with stereo electronics.In 2019 Daan Janssens wrote …SANS RIEN DIRE… for ensemble and electronics, in which he explores the sound of a colorful play of colors. But in the threatening, nocturnal coloring, a dramatic development is reserved for the electronics part. The work is conceived as a contemporary response to Karlheinz Stockhausen's KONTAKTE, and refers, among other things, to his four-channel use of electronics.
